Aimed at headteachers, school governors, subject leads, teachers and cultural organisations, this FREE special conference will hear direct from Andria Zafirakou, who made international headlines for winning the $1m Global Teacher Awards prize, which she promptly used to set up her own charity, www.artistsinresidence.org.uk, connecting schools with artists. An Arts and Textiles teacher and SLT member at Alperton Community School, Brent – one of the most disadvantaged London boroughs, with some of the poorest residents in the UK – Andria transformed the school by re-writing the curriculum to reflect the complex lives of her students and their families, transforming the school into the top 1-5% of the country in terms of qualifications and accreditation. She will share about why the arts are important in schools what we can do to reinvigorate our curricula using the arts.

Susan Aykin, OFSTED’s National Lead for Visual and Performing Arts, will update on OFSTED Education new inspection framework and its renewed commitment to ensure schools deliver a rounded curriculum, including creative subjects.

Additional speakers will include representatives from Arts Council England, RIO (Bridge Organisation), AUB, Wave and other special guests still to be confirmed.

There will also be plenty of chances to ask questions, network and share practice.

Plus a free networking lunch, courtesy of AUB.
