Russell-Cotes – Mini painting project

February 27, 2019

399 children from local schools (St. Luke’s, Heathlands, Bearwood, Canford Heath and Ad Astra) participated in the Mini Painting Project lead by the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.

The aim of the project was for pupils to be influenced and inspired by a piece of art from the Russell-Cotes collection and for the students to create their own art in response.
Participating schools chose a piece of artwork from the museum’s art collection, based on a topic that linked to their curriculum. Pupils then took part in an art workshop in school linked to the chosen artwork. During the workshop pupils designed and created a mini piece of art, using the Russell-Cotes image as their inspiration.

The mini canvases were then exhibited in the Russell-Cotes 15 January – 10 February 2019, for all of its visitors to enjoy. At the end of the exhibition the artwork was delivered back to the schools to be given to the participating students.
The project was funded by the Russell-Cotes and Bournemouth and Poole Cultural Hub and managed by the Russell-Cotes Learning Team.
