Far Flung Corners

February 14, 2017

A result of the Lighthouse/Cultural Hub partnership is Far Flung Corners, a brand new CD by the Far Flung Collective, released January 2017 on the Anna-Wendy/Birnam CD label, and officially launching at the prestigious Celtic Connections Music Festival in Glasgow on 28 January 2017.

Inspired by and celebrating the longstanding cultural diversity, connections and landscapes of South West England and the Scottish Outer Hebrides, what started out as a school-based music education project (visiting over 4000 children in Bournemouth, Poole and the Outer Hebrides) rapidly evolved into a fully- fledged artistic collaboration between the musicians involved, Scottish fiddler Anna-Wendy Stevenson, viola player Simon Bradley, Dorset-based singer songwriter Alex Roberts and Lighthouse’s own Dan Somogyi (piano/guitar), plus young Scottish musicians Mabel Duncan, Tom Campbell, Jordan Neil and Joseph Peach.

Much of the material on the CD was premiered at a sellout Lighthouse concert by the Far Flung Collective back in March 2016, before being recorded in Glasgow in May (thanks to Arts Council England and Cultural Hub). You can get a copy of the CD from Lighthouse’s new art shop on the ground floor, priced £11, or from usual online retailers. Find it on Amazon here.
