Children from Oakdale Junior School worked with artist Jeff Piggott as an Artist in Residence funded and supported by Wave Arts Education Agency. The children and Jeff worked using the Reggio Emilio method of working – where there is a starting point but no prescribed outcome for the project and ideas lead down various paths which are explored, some about thinking and process and some about product. The end of the project saw a boat made of compartments which were filled with books and objects that the children made, all concerned with transition. Transition was a very relevant theme for both the school, moving from a middle school to a primary school system, and also for the children who were leaving Oakdale to move on to new schools.
The boat will be moved around on it’s stand so that visitors and other children at the school will have a chance to view the objects and books inside the boat.
