Wave and Arts2Educate
Abi Thommes is the founder of Arts2Educate, a successful Dorset-based organisation that brings art and drama workshops to primary schools. Abi’s years of teaching, arts and drama experience, including gaining her Arts Awards, has helped to see Arts2Educate grow – expanding her work to into art centres, libraries, holiday clubs, as well as schools across the region.
Wave is delighted to be collaborating with Abi to offer FREE arts workshops for KS1 and SEN schools across Bournemouth and Poole, including an optional in-school CPD session.
With an appreciation that there is often limited resources, capacity or time to fit in arts projects in schools, we hope that Abi’s energetic approach, along with her ideas and skills, can help to provide an inspiring art experience for you and your class.
“Second time we have had a workshop from Abi and kids have loved both of them and found it useful and exciting!!! Also extremely flexible and able to adapt workshop to fit topics/literacy genres/texts! Highly recommend!! Thank you for another great day Abi!”
Abi will deliver two half day workshops over two terms based on your termly topics. Before coming into your school we’ll ask for information around the topics for that term. Abi will then build a lesson plan bespoke to your school’s topics and priorities.
During the first hands-on workshop, children will build up a range of techniques which can be built on throughout the term.
Abi will return the following term for Workshop 2. This will give you the chance to build on her first visit, developing the skills explored through her first workshop.
Our aim is to ensure the children grow in confidence with the techniques taught and for you to feel inspired in teaching art. By the end of the term we hope that children can produce a final piece that you and they are proud of.
Each session will be 1 1/2 hours long minimum. We would therefore ask that unless you can schedule two back-to-back sessions (i.e in the morning) that you select one class for Abi to work with per term.
Alternatively, Abi can offer a ‘whole year group art session‘. For this, Abi will require the attendance of all teachers/ TAs for support and access to a large space. Abi will set up a series of ‘art stations’ around the hall with a variety of activities that students can rotate between.
10 schools will have the opportunity to receive two half-day workshops AND an in-school CPD session with Abi. This will be a fun, informal and practical session open to you and your colleagues that wish to be inspired in teaching art at KS1 or for SEN.
Abi will once go through a range of different techniques and ideas that you could use with your classes; play games, work in pairs and as individuals, and show you how to work towards creating a final piece. The CPD will take approx. one hour and is designed to take place at the end of the school day.
Workshops are offered on a first come, first serve basis. To book your school in for a workshop please fill out this online booking form. Any questions please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
