Animal Magic was a three-day project run in partnership with the Bournemouth & Poole Cultural Hub and the Arts University Bournemouth’s Widening Participation Team supported by MoDiP with Hamworthy Middle School. Its purpose was to enthuse a group of primary school learners and promote creative learning using plastics in an active, innovative and original way, whilst supporting the national curriculum to achieve high standards. The theme of ‘plastics’ inspired by animals was the silver lining connecting all creative elements to form a final piece, which was filmed.
On the first day the learners visited MoDiP and looked at the exhibition Beastly designs. They were also shown a number of masks from the collection. They then made their own masks taking inspiration from what they had seen. The following day, back at school, the learners worked with a musician making music with a variety of different kinds of plastics and different plastic objects ending with a recording session.
On the final day they explored creative movement and developed a performance in response to the music.
